Information Collection

We at Moody's Analytics and Equifax recognize the importance of protecting your personal and financial information. We respect your privacy and your concerns about how the information you provide might be used. Moody's Analytics and Equifax are the sole owners of the information collected on Moody's Analytics collects information from our users at several different points on the web site:


In order to use this web site, a user must contact a Moody's Analytics sales representative or an Equifax Marketing representative. This contact can be via an email to or by calling the main number of Moody's Analytics. Registration is completed offline via the telephone; during the registration a user is required to give contact information (name, organization, email address, postal code, country and position title). We may also ask for organization address, organization phone number, type of organization and size of organization (sales and number of employees). We use this information to contact the user about services on our site for which he/she has expressed interest.


For some products and services we may also ask for your credit card information and billing address. This information is used to process and fulfill product orders and/or subscriptions and to provide support. If we have trouble processing an order, the information is used to contact the user. This information is not requested on the web site itself; it will be asked for offline during the registration process.

Information Use


We store the information that we collect through cookies, log files, clear gifs, and/or third parties to create a profile of our users. A profile is sorted information that we keep on individual users that details their viewing preferences and habits. Consequently, collected information is related to the user's personal identifiable information to provide offers and improve the content of the site for the user. This profile is used to customize and personalize a user's experience to our web site, and to direct pertinent marketing promotions to them.

Other Moody's Analytics organizations

For the purposes of providing services under the web site, Moody's Analytics may from time to time pass along personally identifiable information to its parent organization, Moody's Analytics, Inc. and its affiliates. This information is used for the support of Moody's Analytics products only; it will not be used for promotional purposes. A cookie is a piece of data stored on the user's computer which identifies that computer during current and subsequent visits to a web site. We use both session ID cookies and persistent cookies. For the session ID cookie, once users close the browser, the cookie simply terminates. A persistent cookie is a small text file stored on the user's computer for an extended period of time. Cookies are used to automate the login process and store user site preferences. If a user rejects certain cookies, their ability to use the Web sites will be significantly degraded and the Web sites may not function at all. Persistent cookies enable us to track and target the interests of our users to enhance their experience of our site. Personally identifiable information is stored and encrypted within either session or persistent cookies. We do link the information we store in cookies to personally identifiable information you submit while using our site.

Log Files

Like most users of standard web site servers we use log files. This includes internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, internet service provider (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, and number of clicks to analyze trends, administer the site, track users' movement in the aggregate, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. IP addresses, etc. are linked to personally identifiable information. We use Google Analytics and AWStats, software packages that use log files to analyze user activity.

Clear Gifs (Web Beacons/Web Bugs)

We employ a software technology called clear gifs (a.k.a. Web Beacons/Web Bugs), that helps us better manage content on our Web sites by informing us what content is effective. Clear gifs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies, and are used to track the online movements of web users. The main difference between the two is that clear gifs are invisible on the page and are much smaller, about the size of the period (full stop) at the end of this sentence. Clear gifs are not tied to users' personally identifiable information.

Clear Gifs can "work with" existing cookies on a computer if they are both from the same web site or advertising company. That means, for example, that if a person visited "", which uses an advertising company's clear gif, the web site or advertising company would match the clear gif's identifier and the advertising company's cookie ID number, to show the past online behavior for that computer. This collected information would then be given to the advertising company or web site.

In addition, we use clear gifs in our HTML-based emails to let us know which emails have been opened by the recipients. We send all new members a welcoming email to verify password and username. Established members will occassionally receive information on products, services, special deals and a newsletter. Service Announcements

On rare occasions it is necessary to send out a service-related announcement. For instance, if our service is temporarily suspended for maintenance we might send users an email. Generally, users may not opt-out of these communications, although they can deactivate their account. However, these communications are not promotional in nature. Legal Disclaimer

Although we make every effort to preserve user privacy, we may need to disclose personal information when required by law, such as where we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process served on our web site. We do not share, sell, rent or trade PII with third parties for their promotional purposes.

Moody's Analytics partners with Equifax to provide data and information on the web site. We provide Equifax with users' names and organizational information in order that Equifax may provide support for products and services.

Third Party Intermediaries

We use an outside credit card processing company to bill users for goods and services. This company does not retain, share, store or use personally identifiable information for any secondary purposes.

Third Party Content Providers

We partner with other third party content providers to offer specific products and services. When the user signs up for these particular products or services, we share names, or other contact information (address, phone number, email address) that is necessary for the third party to provide support for these products and services. These third parties are not allowed to use personally identifiable information except for the purpose of providing support.

Organizational Subscribers

Where an organization subscribes to our products, we share aggregated and detailed account usage information for that organization's named user accounts with the main customer contact for that organization. This information aids the subscribing organization in determining the appropriate number of user accounts, allocations of products, and overall utility of those products.


Our users are given the opportunity to 'opt-out' of having their information used for purposes not directly related to our site at the point where we ask for information. For example, our registration form has an 'opt-out' mechanism so users who register with us, but do not want any marketing material, can keep their email address off of our lists.

This web site takes every precaution to protect our users' personally identifiable information. When users submit financial information (such as a credit card number) via the web site, their information is protected both online and off-line.

When our registration/order form asks users to enter financial information (such as a credit card number), that information is encrypted and is protected with industry leading encryption software - SSL. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon on the bottom of web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer becomes locked, as opposed to unlocked, or open, when users are just 'surfing'.

While we use SSL encryption to protect financial information online, we also do everything in our power to protect users' information off-line. All of our users' personally identifiable information, not just the financial information mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk or a customer service representative) are granted access to personally identifiable information. Our employees must use password-protected screen-savers when they leave their desk. When they return, they must re-enter their password to re-gain access to user information. Furthermore, ALL employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.
